Keep reading to find out why and how to plan your perfect trip.

What to do?

There is plenty to do around the Windemere region including the very famous and much-loved The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction. There you will find information on the fascinating history of Beatrix Potter, as well as beautiful models and tableaus of your favourite characters like Peter Rabbit that transport you into the magical world of her making.

Another great activity to try while visiting lake Windermere is the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. At 3.2 miles long it is rather on the short side, but this is made up for by the fact that they are real working steam trains you can ride on from the station!

Where to stay?

There are lots of accommodation options to consider when staying around lake Windermere. Many people enjoy camping in this location, as they feel it brings them closer to nature. Although, the weather is not always reliably sunny, even in the summer!

Indeed, if you are looking for a place to stay that is full of charm, cosy and close to the lake and that offers excellent food then the Angel Inn is a great choice. There you will be greeted by a friendly team, and taken to your clean and comfortable room. Breakfast is included in the price, and the inn boasts a beautiful beer garden that you can spend time in when the weather's fine, and a cosy and stylish restaurant perfect for your evening meal.

Where to eat?

There is a wide range of fantastic eateries to try during your stay in Windermere. For all-day treats and meals, why not try The Magic Roundabout in Bowness-on-Windermere where you can get a range of breakfasts and lunches including a full English breakfast with all the trimmings.

If you are after something with more of a kick, then why not give the Lake Raj a go? They offer delicious Indian food in a clean and modern atmosphere with excellent service. Alternatively, there is the rather magical Siam Cafe where they serve stunning and delicious authentic Thai food, always freshly made. Be sure to try their Lamb Shank Massaman, and their set menus are great value too!

Don’t miss!

Last of all, if you are visiting Lake Windermere you won’t want to miss the chance to go on a hike. There are many to choose from, but the best has to be Strolling around the lake – Wray Castle loop from Far Sawrey. On this 3-and-a-half-hour intermediate hike, you will walk following the lake and cover around 8.5 miles including around the 4th mile, the beautiful Wray Castle. The paths on this provide good access, and this makes it suitable for a range of hikers looking to get in their daily exercise while making the most of the scenic views.
