Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler Review

I have been meaning to order the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler (£20.00) since I read about it years ago, but... I didn't really want to pay £20.00 for it. I kept buying cheaper curlers and guess what? They all fell apart after a couple of uses or didn't even curl my lashes properly. I am sure I spent much more than £20 on eyelash curlers in the past, so I should have bought Shu Uemura ones in the first place. They are definitely worth the hype and I am glad I decided to order them from Space NK.

First of all, you have to remember that there are fakes of these available on ebay etc. I would advise you to buy them from authorised retailers to make sure you get the real thing. You can have a look at the details and packaging on the photos below. You will be able to tell, if something is a fake by the writing on the box etc.

The curler comes with a spare silicone pad, so make sure to keep it in a safe place, like your jewellery box. I already lost my replacement pad and I am very annoyed about it! I put it in my makeup drawer and it magically vanished!

The design of the Shu Uemura Curler features a patented hinge to apply the perfect amount of pressure to the lashes and I can definitely feel the difference. It just feels right and I am not worried about pulling my lashes out or hurting myself. The silicone pad provides a protective edge for improved safety and optimum curl. Perfect!

To curl your lashes, you simply position the curlers as close to the base of your lashes as possible, press down and hold for about 10 seconds. Easy peasy. Does it work? Yes it does. My lashes are naturally flat thick and super stiff, so I didn't expect miracles, but I can achieve a nice curl with Shu Uemura Curlers (see photos below) and that's good enough for me. For the best results, I use waterproof mascara, as it helps to hold the curl better than a non-waterproof version.

Overall, I am very pleased with the Shu Uemura Curler and I am expecting it to last for about 4-5 years. Money well spent! I would recommend it to anyone!

  1. What a great result! I am a very bad beauty blogger but I just don't bother with eyelash curlers, for me most mascaras do the job just fine, but you got a quality product that will probably last you for years :o). Xx

  2. I love my Shu Uemura curler. I won't use anything else. I needed a spare pad since I went through 2 already, so I used a Revlon spare. It was different, but it still curled much better than the Revlon curler - that one was terrible.

  4. I've heard you can't buy spare pads separately and that you have to buy a new curler which is annoying? It keeps me from buying it ):

  9. i've been using Shu for years and love it. but only recently actually read the directions which say to throw away the curler after the 2 provided pads run out. pfft. i've been using pad refills from a beauty supply store. no, they are not exactly the same but it still works better than any other curler i've tried.

  14. I never used an eye lash curler until my friend pointed out 'I've never seen anyone with such point straight lashes like yours' :D My Shus are on the way already from Japan, hope they're not gonna be fake ones, haha!

  15. Wow what a difference. I have this too and have just recently started using it regularly. It took me a while to get the hang of it and avoid the crimped/bent lash look but now I love how eye opening it is!
