Budget buy: MUA lipstick in shade 2

I found this post in my drafts and I just couldn't leave it unpublished :) To be honest, I stopped reaching for cheap lipsticks, because I am always scared that the ingredients used in them are really bad.
I do have a big selection of £1 MUA lippies though and some of them are really gorgeous.

The shade I am reviewing today is called shade 2. Unfortunately it does't have a nice name, but  I am hoping to see MUA naming all their lipsticks one day (not 3 out of 14).

Shade 2 is a lovely plum pink colour with blue undertones and it is a great choice for those scared of deep purple shades. The consistency is very creamy, easy to apply straight from the bullet and stays put for 2-3 hours. It is also very hydrating - quite impressive for a £1 lipstick!

MUA packaging is very basic, but for £1 it is pretty good! The little see-through pot of product on the bottom is always a bonus, making the lipstick easy to find in my drawer.

I really like this lipstick and other products from MUA, but I started to care more about the ingredients in my makeup and I am trying to figure out what is good and bad etc.
It is really difficult to find the answers though, because even some of the most popular "organic and natural" brands use nasty ingredients.

What are your thoughts? Do you care about ingredients, when you buy makeup products?

Ingredients: Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Ricinus Communis Oil, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Cera Alba, Hydrogenated Microcrystalline Wax, Paraffin, Glycol Montanate, Synthetic Wax, Montan Cera, Bis-diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate, Parfum, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Benzoate. May Contain +/- : [ CI 15850, Mica, CI 77491, CI 77499, CI 77891, CI 15850, CI 77492, CI 45410, CI 19140, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tin Oxide. ]

Again... I am confused about the sizes :) The last lipstick is massive compared to others!

You can buy this lipstick online (here) and in Superdrug stores.

  1. This is my favourite MUA lipstick, the colour is gorgeous. And if I'm being honest, I don't think about the actual ingredients that go into make-up, I just guess the more you pay, the better quality of the product over all.

  9. Ingredients are important to me but not a complete deal breaker. One thing I try and really avoid on my lips are mineral oils in all forms as they dry out the lips in the long run. On the whole I think everyone should care about ingredients. After all - anything you put on your skin can potentially be in your blood stream in 6 seconds. That is faster than food!

A misconception is that more expensive means better ingredients -whilst this can be the case its not always true. Plenty of expensive brands use crap ingredients full of mineral oils, sulphates and parabens...its people miseducation that means they can sell them without any question, People fall for the brand, packaging and adverts...its all a shame if you ask me.

I try and include ingredients in all the blog posts I do - whether or not you want to use them is up to you but people need to be informed!

  10. I care about ingredients when it comes to my face and eyes but I've never really thought about what goes on my lips, I love MUA lipsticks though I wish they named their shades too. I hope one day they bring out a whole new range of lipsticks with names. This looks great on you! xo

  18. I found the shorter lipsticks had the pop off bottom, and the longer ones were a better (and the newer type I think) screw-off bottom.

I'm surprised it's so pigmented since it's pretty cheap. Does it stay on long??

Ah, I'm actually wary of ingredients in products - I know which ones don't work well for me as well, which is good! ^^

  22. hi there.great post and fab colour.i don't know if you know this already but some of the MUA lipsticks have colour pots of gloss? in the base which screw off, which causes the size difference.i have shade 1 that doesn't and Bare that does and theres a definate size difference.not sure if I'm stating the obvious but I thought I would mention it.i only know this myself from reading a review on MUA's website from a customer.

    keep up the fantastic work.
