Point A Hotel Edinburgh Review

 Complimentary stay

I was recently invited to an evening event in Edinburgh, so it was a perfect opportunity for me to check out the new Haymarket Point A Hotel. With it's stunning decor, affordable prices and great location, it is ideal for anyone visiting Edinburgh.

If you're traveling by rail, the closest stations are Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley. We drove (60 minutes) and parked at the NCP Edinburgh Castle Terrace Car Park for 24 hours. Point A offer a special discounted rate for hotel guests and instead of paying a hefty £30, we paid £14.00. You simply ask for a ticket from reception and use it at the pay point in the car park to receive the discount.

The rooms are modern but very homely and I love the overall feel of the design. The little pops of yellow on the buttons of the headboard, the inside of the cupboard and drawers on the desk are such a nice touch.

The rooms come fully equipped with everything you need including super comfortable Hypnos beds, power showers, 43-inch smart TV with Chromecast connectivity, hairdryers, mood lighting and more. There is even an ironing room (it was right next to our room).

When you check in, you get your room card and you will also need it to enter the hotel late at night and to enter the elevators. The check in starts at 15.00 and check-out time is 11.00, but you can extend the time for an extra £25. The check-in process happens the traditional way, at the check-in desk.

I was pleasantly surprised to find Edinburgh Gin cocktails in the room. I am a huge fan of these (and the brand) and I could not be happier, haha. So delicious and such a nice touch.

To help the environment, instead of cleaning rooms everyday, each room is thoroughly cleaned after each guest visit and every three days for longer-staying guests (unless you specifically request it to be cleaned more often). I am all for this approach, as I never expect the rooms to be cleaned when I am only staying for a day or two.

I love the modern design of the bathroom and the minimalistic approach to toiletries. There's hand/shower/hair wash available at the sink and in the shower, so there is no unnecessary waste.

Each room features a walk-in waterfall power shower and big light up mirror.

There is plenty of space for coats and belongings and a full length mirror on the door.

Our room had  a window with a lovely street view, but there is a few options: Double or Twin, with or without a window or accessible. Point A Edinburgh also offers new spacious ‘Comfy’ rooms, and for those who want an unbeatable view, ‘Comfy with view' rooms.

Each room comes with everything you need, including towels, hairdryer and a safe to store your valuables. There is no tea/coffee facilities, which might surprise you, but it's better for the planet and not a necessity in my opinion. You can buy tea and coffee downstairs.

The breakfast is served downstairs from 06:30 to 10:30 Monday to Friday and 07:00 to 11:00 Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays and costs £8.00 per person. It's available to grab and go as well. The breakfast bar offers continental breakfast with a big selection of freshly baked pastries (croissants, cinnamon swirls, cheese and bacon twists), create-your-own porridge bowls, yoghurts, fruits, juice, tea or freshly ground coffee.

If you're vegan, there is plenty of cereals to choose from, or you can have porridge (you have to ask staff for soya milk for cereal). There's lots of various toppings and plenty of fresh fruit too. The fruit was my favourite part - it was so sweet and juicy (not tinned and stinky like in a few places I've tried before). So yummy! I had watermelon, pineapple ad grapes. YUM! Lots of delicious rolls too, which you can have with jam.

If you're omni or veggie, there's so much more choice. The yoghurts looked so good, I just wish they had soya ones, so I could enjoy them too.  I mean... look at the granola with maple syrup!

I was happy with fruit though, I am obsessed with watermelon.

The lounge area is so cosy and simply gorgeous! Perfect, if you want to chill with a cuppa or a drink.

Overall, I  really enjoyed my stay at Point A Edinburgh. The beds are amazing and I had a wonderful sleep, the rooms are gorgeous and the breakfast was lovely (even the limited vegan options). The location is amazing as well and all the tourist attractions are just a few minutes walk away. Very friendly and helpful staff and a smooth check-in as well. I would 100% recommend, if you're visiting Edinburgh and want to be close to all the hustle and bustle of the city.
