Rihanna Rogue EDP Review

Rihanna Rogue EDP* 75ml £33.00

I am not a fan of Rihanna and I find her very vulgar, but when I received her new EDP, I actually really loved the design. With little spike details on the bottom, rose gold accents and an unusal, textured bottle cap, it would look lovely on any dressing table. Unfortunately, when I spritzed myself with the perfume, I was left massively disappointed.  I always mention that I am not fussy with scents (which is 100% true), but there is one kind of perfume I don't like and Rihanna's new concoction is exactly what I avoid in perfumes. Let me explain why....

When I read the press release, I thought - wow, it will smell gorgeous! 'Flirty Sensual Oriental' with notes of Lemon Blossom, Cyclamen, Bergamot, Pink Peppercorn, Jasmine, Rose, Juicy Plum, Suede, Patchouli, Golden Amber, Musk and wait... what is the last one? Yep, it is Vanilla - my favourite! Sounds good, right?

One spritz of Rouge and I find myself running to the bathroom to take a shower! It smells just like Tulisa's Female Boss EDP and it is also very similar to Gucci Rush. Two perfumes, I simply cannot stand and find repulsive. I don't know what it is... I just can't handle this kind of scent. It is very strong, bold and 'violent'. It dries down to a slightly more bearable aroma, but I am still not a fan... It is a mixture of floral, sweet, oriental, powdery and musky and it is just too much for me to handle. When you inhale it, you can actually taste it in your mouth, which explains why it makes some people feel sick.

I hate writing negative reviews. They are very rare on my blog. I actually feel guilty expressing my opinion about this fragrance, because I know that some people absolutely love it and they can be offended. I understand that. Perfumes are a sensitive subject and I know it from my own experience. My younger sister Marta is very picky with scents and she always hated my signature 'Flower By Kenzo'. I didn't understand why would anyone hate it soo much, but hey... when I smelt Gucci Rush, TFB and more recently Rihanna Rogue, I felt a bit violated, so I totally get the feeling of being appalled by an EDP.

I even read tons of reviews of Rogue on fragrantica (link) to make sure I am not being too harsh, but I feel reassured now. You either love or hate this scent and people compared it to Tulisa's Female Boss and Gucci Rush too. Some say it is sexy, intoxicating and captivating, some call it repulsive and vulgar and it makes their stomach turn. A male reviewer even described this scent as 'wham bam, thank you ma'am' kind of fragrance, which I found a bit harsh... but it is very interesting to read such mixed reviews to be honest.

Just look how pretty it is! I really wanted to love you Rogue, but I just can't....

Sooo.... I am not a fan of Rogue by Rihanna and I couldn't possibly wear it, but... you have to smell it to decide if you love or hate it. There is no in-between in my opinion. If you love it - you will be happy with the lasting power, because it stays on the skin and clothes for days!!! Yes, even after a shower, I could still smell it on my wrist.

Rogue is available in 3 sizes: 30ml (£23.00), 75ml (£33.00) and 125ml (£43.00) and it launched nationwide at the end of January.

Have you tried Rouge? Let me know if you like it and please, please, please don't feel offended if you are a big fan of this scent. I believe in 'skins chemistry' and I know that it might actually smell different on someone else.

  1. The mention of Gucci Rush which I find awful means I would not like this, though I do like the bottle design x

  2. I had a quick spray of this whilst I was in Debenhams a few weeks back. I liked it then but haven't tried it again since to make sure (I like to test fragrances about five or six times before I buy them as they're pricey).

  5. Perfumes are very personal, like skincare (as you mentioned on twitter) - and they all smell different on everyone, I wouldn't worry about not liking it, it can't be to everyones taste :) I do like the packaging of the bottle though, love the lid :)

  6. The bottle is very pretty but fragrance is such a personal thing, there's never going to be a one-size fits all approach so please don't feel bad about not liking it! What suits one won't suit another, this doesn't sound as though it would be to my taste but I'd still spritz it if I saw it to see what I thought xx
