Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Review (Luminous Light)

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (Luminous Light) £38.00

I mentioned this beautiful powder in my October Favourites, but it really deserves a separate post! I am obsessed with it and I have been using it every single day since I got it. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder promises to make a true difference to your appearance and give a lovely, soft focus effect. There is 6 shades available and each one emulates a different flattering light source.  After many hours of online research, I decided to go for Lumionous Light and I must admit - it was a good choice.

I wanted a shade I can use allover my face and build it up to use as a highlighter as well. Lumionous Light does the job perfectly and like all the other shades - it is suitable for all skin tones. The powder is very finely milled and has a small amount of micro shimmer. You can see on the photos below, that swatched heavily, it looks like a highlighter, but once blended it transforms into a silky, luminous powder. The formula 'utilizes "photoluminescent technology" (featuring micron-size, soft-focus particles) and it is supposed diffuse and soften the way light reflects on your skin, making it appear younger, brighter and flawless. On top of that, the formula is paraben, talc, gluten and frangrance free and doesn't contain nano-particles. The powder doesn't settle into pores or wrinkles, so you don't have to worry, if these are your concerns.

Luminous Light is a champagne pearl shade and it is meant to give a candlelight effect. It reminds me of MAC Soft & Gentle - with a lot less shimmer and a more silky texture. I love using these two together actually :) I apply the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder with my MAC 187 Duo Fiber Brush or Real Techniques Duo Fiber brush for a subtle effect, or Real Techniques Blush Brush, if I want to apply more product. You CAN overdo it, so be careful and don't apply too much. Applied allover my face, Luminous Light makes my face looks absolutely flawless, blurring out small wrinkles, pores and imperfections. I am not sure, if the closeup photo above is a good example, but in real life, the powder makes my skin look flawless and  adds the most beautiful glow to my complexion. If I want to use the Ambient Lighting Powder as a highlighter, I use my fingers to apply it. On my combination skin (dry cheeks, oily t-zone) the powder lasts all day and does a great job at setting my foundation. Did I mention, that it is fab for setting under-eye concealer? Well, it is - it brightens dark circles and diffuses light beautifully. Amazing multi-tasker!

Overall, I am in love with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light and I actually treated myself to the limited edition Ambient Lighting Palette too :) I will be reviewing it this weekend, but if you really want it, I would recommend buying it asap. It is sold out everywhere, except Space NK. Believe me, it is worth every penny! You will get compliments on your skin and the 'beautiful glow' every single day!

  1. Oh my, you are so lucky to get your hands on these! I've been wanting to try them forever (together with a whole lotta other Hourglass products) but it's hard to get here. I'm contemplating a haul though, if I can get over the shipping fee, lol. It looks lovely on you, like a soft candle light effect idd!

  7. It's so interesting how it can be used as a setting powder and highlighter--a 2 in 1! Which I suppose it should be when you're paying so much for it! I was actually eyeing this up in Sephora today but couldn't decide on a shade--this one looks gorgeous though. Thanks for your review!

  12. Wow it is so gorgeous! Too bad it's a little pricey (even though well deserved) and I wouldn't know where to look for it here in Italy. By the way I love the lipstick your wearing here. xx
