Ciate Chalkboard Manicure Review and Giveaway

Ciat√© Chalkboard Manicure Kit* £25 (exclusive to Selfridges)

"Hate the sound of nails on a chalkboard? Why not try chalkboard on your nails with Ciat√©'s manicure kit."

I love trying out new nail trends and this one is definitely the most exciting one! It is the chalkboard manicure!
Crazy? Yes. Messy? Yes. Fun? DEFINITELY!

As soon as I opened the parcel, my inner child  was released and I felt like a 6 year old girl :)
The kit contains a Matt Black Chalkboard Paint Pot, Mattnificent Matte Top Coat and four nail art pens in white, yellow, pink and blue. The idea is very simple and you don't need any nail art skills to create your own masterpiece :) All you have to do is paint your nails with two coats of chalkboard nail polish, let it dry and start doodling with the nail art pens :) If you make a mistake, you can wipe the nail with warm water and start again. I had to do it a couple of times :) Once you are finished with the design, seal it with a matte top coat to make the manicure last longer and you're done!

Most black nail polishes stain my nails and cuticles and it is the only problem with this type of manicure. I tried it with a base coat to prevent staining, but the chalkboard polish wasn't really sticking to the nail properly, so it had to be used on bare nails.

When it comes to using the nail art pens, you can be very creative and the possibilities are endless! I went for a simple pink design first, but I got carried away and doodled allover my nails with every single colour :) haha. The pens are easy to use, but they need a good shake before the first use and I would advise trying them out on paper first. They have a matte, chalk-like finish and are perfect for creating cute little dots :)

The manicure lasted on my nails for 2 days and started to wear off on the tips on day 3, which is great in my case, because my weak nails chip easily.

I must admit - I had A LOT of fun with this kit and it brought back childhood memories.  It is a very cool idea and the set would make a perfect gift for nail art lovers , like me :)

The kit is only available from Selfridges and you can buy it here.

Please excuse my dry cuticles, but I didn't want to put oil on them. It would ruin the matte effect on the photos :)

  18. Did the black nail color make your nails yellow? And did you put the "mattnificent" top coat - or do you have to?

    1. Black always stains nails, if you don't wear a base coat and leave the manicure on for a long period of time. It didn't stain my nails yellow though, I just had a slight grey tint left on the nails and it came off easily, with an acetone free nail polish remover.

Because it is a special nail polish, using a base coat can affect the consistency and drying. Just like I said in the post - I tried it with a base coat and the chalkboard nail paint wasn't really sticking to the nail properly, so I had to use it without a base coat.

I used the Mattnificient top coat to seal the manicure.
