Some super foods for healthy skin and a quick smoothie recipe.

Hi everyone. If you follow my instagram, you will know that I am currently eating a super healthy diet, with loads of fruit and veg and nutritious smoothies. I am doing it to lose weight, but also to improve the condition of my skin and to boost my immune system. It isn't a massive change for me, but like said in my previous post, I am trying to totally cut out processed foods, preservatives and other bad stuff.

I received a jar of Organic Coconut Oil and dried Goji Berries from an online store called Detox Your World and they also asked if I would like to feature some interesting content about super foods available in their store.

I have been using Goji Berries in smoothies and they add a lovely flavour, especially to a simple banana smoothie. They also taste really nice on their own (as a snack) and are packed with Vitamin C!

For a quick and healthy smoothie I use 200ml of unsweetened almond milk, one banana, a handful of Goji Berries and a tablespoon of coconut oil. It tastes AMAZING and it must be my favourite combo! Simply blend all the ingredients together and you are done!

I don't usually fry my food, so I only use the coconut oil in my smoothies or to fry protein pancakes once/twice a week. I am a coconut addict so this is perfect for me :)

I also used the coconut oil to make a home-made cinnamon and coconut body scrub and I might add a DIY post about it in the future.

HERE IS WHAT DETOX YOUR WORLD SAY ABOUT SUPERFOODS:

"Did you know that around half of the UK population suffers from some type of skin problem? The skin is our largest organ and our first line of defence, protecting our muscles, bones and internal organs. It simultaneously insulates and regulates our body temperature, manufactures vitamin D and guards our bodies from harmful toxins and excessive water loss.

Eating a healthy, balanced diet will ensure that your body can cleanse itself in a natural way. It will also supply your body with all of the nutrients required for beautiful, flawless skin, including water, protein, unsaturated fats, vitamins, minerals, carotenoids and polyphenols. If you want to benefit from radiant, young looking skin we recommend incorporating a number of special superfoods for skin into your daily diet.

1) Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is rich in vegetable saturated fatty acids that actively restore our skin’s natural fat content and encourage the absorption of essential fatty acids including omega-3, omega-6, choline and lecithin. Coconut oil makes an ideal replacement for regular cooking oils and, as its also hypoallergenic, can even be used as a nourishing and fragrant skin lotion or massage oil.

2) Goji berries
Delicious, vibrant goji berries are well known for their longevity properties. Yet these delightful red berries with the sweet flavour of cranberry and cherry also contain an exceptionally high number of antioxidants. This helps neutralise free radicals and prevents both damage and inflammation to our skin cells. And as they contain substantial quantities of vitamin C, which demonstrably reduces the signs of ageing

3) Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera contains around 200 active compounds and more than 75 beneficial nutrients, including 18 amino acids and 12 vitamins, making it one of the most powerful natural superfoods for skin. Aloe Vera not only boosts collagen production, it gently soothes burns, heals wounds, repairs skin damage such as extreme dryness and can even be used to treat skin complaints including eczema. It can also be applied directly to the skin where it’s incredibly moisturising properties quickly produce a glowing, even tone.
