1 month baby & mummy update

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I last posted, but it has been a crazy couple of weeks and I am still adjusting to life with 2 kids. Between breastfeeding, pumping milk, topping up with formula, changing nappies, looking after my toddler, doing housework, cooking, replying to emails and spamming everyone with pictures of Mia on instagram, I end up having no time and energy left for my blog. I consider my blog my 3rd baby, so I have to find time for it pronto! I miss is as well, so it's not going to be forced, don't worry :) I am just very relaxed about it at the moment. Although... my 'to blog' product pile is getting out of control.

I apologise, if this post has no structure whatsoever, but I will try not to ramble too much. Sooo... Let's start with baby Mia.

She is doing great and she is now 6 weeks old (almost 7). She is a very content baby and I can't really complain about her at all! She only wakes up for 1 feed during the night (around 3 o'clock)  and since I am still breastfeeding, I offer her both breasts and she goes back to sleep. She usually wakes up around 8-9 in the morning, so it's not bad at all. I am feeling it obviously, because I NEED my sleep to function, but soon enough she will probably start sleeping through the night. Fingers crossed!

Feeding! Unfortunately, I am not breastfeeding exclusively, because my milk supply is rubbish! It is VERY depressing and I cannot believe my body failed me at the most basic human function possible, hut hey... I am doing my best! I am combination feeding though and it is working out well. More about that in a series of post I have planned.

On a happier note, Mia is an absolute angel! She loves cuddles, she smiles a lot, she has the most beautiful eyes and super thick hair and a perfect little pout! Zachary is obsessed with her and it melts my heart! He kisses her, cuddles her, tells her that he 'loves her soooo much' and cannot stop staring at her. He also gives her a dummy when she cries (she spits it out after 2 seconds) and it's just too adorable! I am so, so proud of him! He is the best big brother any girl could ask for.

Speaking of the dummy, she isn't a fan at all, so when she moans, she just wants me and my breasts, haha :) Even when she doesn't want a feed, she will just lie there latched on, all happy and content. I have to put a stop to this soon, as I can't do most tasks while a baby is attached to my breast :) I will update you on that.

Now let's talk about mummy's health. I went for my 6 week checkup at the hospital and I also had a Glucose Tolerance Test on Tuesday and it is all good. Yay! I am so relieved. I was worried I might end up with type 2 diabetes after the big scare at the end of my pregnancy. I really have to lose weight, as I am simply not putting myself at risk of developing this horrible illness. Unfortunately, weight is a big factor with diabetes, even if you eat well etc. The heavier you are, the harder it is for your body to control the insulin levels, which only goes one way - type 2 diabetes. It takes years, even decades, but it happens eventually. So, so scary!!! I am ok with the way I look, but I want to be as healthy as possible for the sake of my children, so  I have to go back to my pre-pregnancy weight within the next 2 years. I can do it, I know it!

I also got the remaining stitches removed from my c-section wound, as they simply didn't dissolve! YUCK! I actually pulled out a 10cm stitch myself last night after the doctor pulled the other ones out the other day! Oh god.... it was such an odd feeling. I just felt something poking out, so I started pulling it and it just went on and on and it turns out that it was 10cm long!!! That's why my wound is taking so long to heal, my body is just rejecting the 'dissolvable stitches '. I have no luck, do I? It should all heal quicker now, they are out though.

Life in general has been a bit tricky lately, because my husband was involved in a car crash and he ended up being out of work for over 6 weeks. We are still affected by it financially, as the insurance company is doing everything in their power not to pay out and it's a struggle. We are soooo behind with payments and it's neverending! Scott is also suffering a lot from the whiplash and going to physio to help with it.

All  that happened while I was in and out of hospital due to the gestational diabetes and than having a premature baby in neo-natal. We even got a parking ticket while I was on an operating table, having a section, as my hubby couldn't go and pay for more parking, as you can only pay for 3 hours upfront. It was ridiculous. The petrol cost for everyday hospital trips, no income whatsoever for 2 months... Most baby purchases were put on hold. I still don't have a travel system. I mean... Living without a pram is hard when you have a newborn! We just got a a cheap car seat. It was a gift actually.

I was also planning o buy the SnuzPod or a bedside crib, but I simply can't afford one. Thank god I have Zachary's travel cot. It's not ideal and a bedside cot would be amazing for breastfeeding at night, I was also planning to but the Doona Car Seat with wheels, as it would be ideal for us), but hey... I will manage. I listed some makeup for sale in my blog sale to get money for the pushchair/travel system, so have a look if you have a minute and want to grab a bargain. (HERE)

I also wanted to  quickly update you all on the direction of the blog. It will be more lifestyle orientated from now on, as I love talking about more than just beauty. Get ready for regular baby and parenting posts too :)

If you want to keep up with me and baby Mia, I share lots of snaps on my Instagram daily, so make sure to give me a follow (HERE).

Lots of love,
Sandra xxx
