Beauty DIY

If you have been a reader of my blog for a long time, you will know that I love little diy projects and I often make my own bath bombs and body scrubs. I was recently challenged by AO to try making some homemade beauty products, including a whipped body butter, salt scrub and lip balm and I simply couldn't say no. How did I do?

Well... The body butter and salt scrub turned out absolutely divine, but I failed at making little lip balms. I measured the beeswax wrong. Ooops :) haha.

For the salt scrub, I used Himalyan Rock Salt, Almond Oil and Strawberry fragrance. You can use any essential oil as a scent, or add some spices. I usually go for cinnamon or a pumpkin pie spice mix and it smells amazing! Scrubs are super easy to make! Honestly, you just mix the salt with the oil, add your fragrance and that's it! Use brown sugar instead of salt for a softer scrub.

For the whipped body butter, you will need 50g (1/2 cup) of raw shea butter,  35g (1/4 cup)  of coconut oil  and 75ml (1/4 cup) of almond oil, plus essential oils or fragrance.
Here is how you do it:

-melt the shea butter and coconut oil in glass bowl over a pot of simmering water and leave to cool for 30 minutes
-once the mixture cools down, add almond oil and your choice of essential oils (or other fragrance - I used chocolate fragrance) and stir until well mixed.
-place the bowl in the freezer for  20 – 30 minutes.
- once the mixture has solidified a bit, remove the bowl from the freezer and whip your body butter with a whisk until you get your desired consistency.
-transfer into an air tight container and you are done.

I failed at making the lip balms, but you can find the recipe here.
