My A/W Fake Tanning Guide

I love a bit of fake tan, especially during the A/W season. It makes me feel more confident and adds a healthy glow to my face and body. Today, I would like to share some of my favourite fake tanning products I use and repurchase regularly, plus some new additions  to my routine.

To add a healthy, bronzed glow to my face, I have been using the Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanning Lotion* (£18.00). It is exactly what I was looking for and I totally understand the hype around it.  It is a light lotion, very easy to use, totally fuss free and non streaky. You simply pour it onto a cotton wool pad, sweep over your face and neck (after exfoliating and toning the skin) and follow with a moisturiser. It is absorbed into the skin within a couple of seconds and you don't have to worry about looking patchy or orange. If you want a more intense effect, you can use your fingers to massage it into the skin, or apply two thin layers of  the product. I use it at night time a couple of times a week and it works wonders. It gives the most natural looking tan and it is 100% foolproof!

If I wake up in the morning looking slightly pale, I reach for the Clarins Instant Smooth Self Tanning Primer* (£18.00). If you love the original Instant Smoothing Perfecting Touch, you will fall in love with this stuff! It smooths the skin, leaving it silky soft and adds a very subtle glow. It is perfect for those who are scared of using regular self tanning products, or ladies with very fair skin. The initial glow looks very natural and the very light brown colour develops after a couple of hours. It won't be dark though, don't worry. It will make you look more radiant and provide the perfect base for makeup.

For a temporary tan on my face and decolletage,  I use the Dr Hauschka Translucent Bronze Concentrate*. It can be used alone, under makeup or mixed with your foundation. I can achieve quite a dark look with it, but I usually apply a small amount for a lovely looking glow.

On my body, I use my all time favourite Xen-Tan Dark Lotion (£24.95) or the  Xen-Tan Moroccan Tan (£20.95). They are both amazing and very moisturising. Dark Lotion gives a dark 'holiday tan', while the Moroccan Tan leaves me SUPER dark and I would only recommend it to those with real fake tanning experience! Have a look at  the before and after photo here (OMG!!!). None of the Xen-Tan products make me look orange and they smell incredible. I simply apply them at night and wash off in the morning.

If I managed to skip my weekly fake tanning night, I can always rely on the  He-Shi Liquid Tan (£31.45 for 300ml). It gives an instant tan in minutes and it is absorbed into the skin really quickly. I love it!

Always remember to prep your skin - exfoliate it properly and moisturise with an oil free lotion the night before tanning. To keep your tan looking gorgeous all week- moisturise every day with your favourite body butters and lotions :)

The best way to apply fake tanning lotions and liquids is with a tanning mitt. My favourite one is by He-Shi (£3.85 via feelunique), but he Xen-Tan (£3.75) one is fab too. I really dislike cheap tanning mitts, because they fall apart after one or two uses. You can also use disposable gloves with tanning lotions and mousses.

If you have a fake tanning disaster and end up patchy and streaky, try to wipe off the mistakes with baby wipes, or scrub your skin with exfoliating gloves. I got this Tan Organic 'eraser mitt' in a beauty box in the past and it is fantastic for removing fake tanning mistakes!
