The worst beauty product of the month/year- Lipcote review

LIPCOTE lipstick sealer 7ml £3.79 link

This product claims to keep your lipstick in place for hours and it is adored by "Luke Anthony, Jemma Kidd, Florrie White and Karin Darnel to name a few, as well as some of the most famous lips in the world... Rihanna, Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Daisy Lowe" blah, blah, blah...

After reading such a statement and a couple of reviews of the famous Lipcote on popular blogs, I decided to buy it from www.feelunique.com. I am glad it costs a very reasonable £3.79, because if I paid more than £5 for it I would be furious! I am so confused about this product! It has done nothing for my lipstick, except ruining it!!! I tried MAC, MUA and Lancome lipsticks with Lipcote, all of them came off/peeled off in tiny bits. As soon as I touched my lips the lipstick was coming off and it looked horrible. I don't want to add a picture of it, because it looked horrid! Another thing I absoluetely hate about this product is the fact that as soon as I put it on my lips it felt like it was burning my skin! My lips were on fire!!!! So horrible! I know that I  am not the only one who experienced this. It  is meant to be a tingling sensation, but for me it was like acid on my lips! It also stinks of alcohol. Yuck!

I am not impressed. I absolutely hate this product and it was a waste of money.
Have you tried it? What do you think about it?

  3. I remember it from my teens and have to agree I hated it, my lips felt like they were burning - yet all my friends raved about it! I really think it's a love it or hate it product.

    I'm on the hate side.x

  4. It also smells like paint stripper, not something I want to put near my face let alone on my lips! Xxx

  7. I've tried it, it worked really well with the first lipstick I tried it with, but every one after that flaked off exactly as you describe, so I don't bother with it any more. I got it in a beauty box, so at least I didn't buy it myself! :)

  8. I hate Lipcote, it is awful. I don't know anyone thats tried it like it, it's stinks and it makes my lipstick go weird and flaky. Strange how when the vanilla one came out pretty much every blogger that got sent one for review loved it!! x

  10. I am so disappointed with this too. However, I have friends that use it and their liptsick looks amazing and seems to stay in place all day, so I am not giving up on this yet because I think there simply must be a trick I'm missing?!

  11. I used to use it, and it does work, but the second you smack your lips it turns disgusting! Not really worth it, better to just reapply! Xx

  17. I think the peeling thing comes from not letting it set properly. It doesn't really mention that to make it set properly, you have to have your mouth open and your lips not touching, and not speak, for about 3 minutes. And try not to drool. So, if you do that, it -does- work, but... its a bit of a faff. I use it if I'm going on a night out or something and I really want it to stay, but other than that, I can't be bothered with the hooha, I'd rather just top up.

    1. I followed the instructions and sat with my lips open for ages to let it dry properly. As soon as I touched my lips or ate something the lipstick started to flake off. I think that it might work with certain lipstick, for example intense semi-matte reds, but they usually last for quite a long time anyway. I bought it to prolong the wear of pinks and peachy shades.

  20. That's too bad!! I think that many famous people are paid to promote a product they never tried. or it is that miraculously it works for them? haha! XOXO

  24. Do you know what, if I had read this post a week earlier I would have been really confused.

I bought one of the newer vanilla Lipcotes and swear by it, yes it stings and smells a bit varnishy but I had expected that so it doesn't bother me. I've had no problem with it at all, does exactly what is says on the tin so to say.

However, I then got an original Lipcote in the last Glossybox and I was going to just give it to a friend seeing as I already had one but the other night I was being too lazy to find mine so decided to just open the new one. I tried it a few times with exactly the same result as you described. It seemed to dry as normal but as soon as I closed my lips or touched them it would peel off like nail varnish.

I am going to give it one more go in case I'm not leaving it to dry long enough and if it still doesn't work I'll ditch it.

I'm just so confused because my other one has always worked perfectly and I always see such great reviews of Lipcote. Maybe they had a bad batch?

    1. That is so strange! Let me know how you get on with it. I did expect it to sting, but it felt like my lips were on fire. I used venom lipglosses before and what they did was stinging, with Lipcote it felt like my lips were burning.

  25. How odd! I've heard mixed reviews on this, its interesting that the other commeters agree in the most part! Im tempted to try it, maybe one of the newer formulas like the vanilla one might be better!

  27. My lips burn with this too, i always think oo i'll give it another go and im always a little disappointed. Actually i used it on Saturday night and ended up touching up my lips like i usually would so it was a waste of time. My lips also felt think and sloppy almost like they were dehydrated. I might try the Vanilla one after reading the comment above :)xx

  28. YES! Acid is so the right word for how it felt.
I got it in one of my glossyboxes and I was excited to try it after hearing great reviews, I couldn't tell you how it worked because as soon as I put it on my lips were burning I had to remove it straight away. Horrible product for that reason alone. >.<

  29. I've been wanting to try this, but have been seeing so many bad reviews I'm a bit put off! It really sounds awful :( x

  30. I agree, this is just horrid! n Ive got the vanilla one so dont think theres difference o_O i want someone who.loves it to make a vifeo how they apply it lol x

  31. I've tried this, I only use it in real emergencies when I know I wont have time to keep reapplying lipstick. It burns like a bitch at first but works ok after that I suppose.. I wont be repurchasing though!

  32. I've used this once and it did the same horrid peeling lipstick gross ickiness to me too. BLAH!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I hated this when I first tried it but I was set on making it work for me having read so many good reviews. I applied a tiny, tiny amount and brushed most of it off on the side and that seemed to do the job a lot better. It still stung a bit and the smell isn't the best but I do find it works well for me if I use it sparingly! Still more of a lipgloss girl though...
